Mountain View Baptist Church will host the 28th annual Kids Fish tournament at Jones Fish Camp on September 27th.
The tournament begins at 10 AM and ends at noon, but participants are encouraged by the organizers to arrive early. Registration for the tournament is free of cost and can be completed online at the church’s website.
“The first 8 years took place at an access on Lake Norman and it grew so large that was no longer sustainable,” said Levi Blalock, the church’s youth minister and one of the event’s coordinators. “Last year we had over 300 kids register and roughly 200 kids showed up to fish.”
Since then, the location was moved to the pond behind Jones Fish Camp, a local seafood restaurant situated off of NC-16 on the gap of the Little Mountain.
“Our church, Mountain View Baptist Church in Maiden, has partnered with McKinney Radiator and Jones Fish Camp for nearly 20 years to host the tournament at the pond,” Blalock said.
Participants will receive goodie bags containing a t-shirt, fishing accessories, and other items. Participating children will also receive trophies.
“We try our best to give out as many trophies as we can,” Blalock said.
Parents and families are encouraged to attend with their children.
“We just want to give kids in our community an opportunity to catch fish and have a great time with the family.”
Event parking will be available at Mt Anderson Baptist Church. Participants and their families will be shuttled from Mt Anderson to the fish camp. Handicap parking will be available at Jones Fish Camp.
