The gas station being constructed at the intersection of NC-150 and E Maiden Road received approval in August to construct additional restaurant and retail buildings on the property.
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners approved the request at their regularly scheduled meeting on August 20th.
The property is owned and is being developed by Home Run Markets, a gas station and convenience store chain based in Statesville.
The original plans for the property included only a four-pump gas station and future plans for an affiliated car wash.
The preliminary plans approved on August 20th, which are subject to change, call for a strip of six businesses and the appropriate parking to be constructed on the opposite side of the gas station’s existing driveway.
The proposal stated that the new retail space would conform with the county’s existing plans for the area “by continuing efforts to develop a retail commercial center near the intersection of NC Hwy 150 and NC Hwy 16.”
The county’s current comprehensive plan, published in 2024, calls for “a ‘regional commercial center’ that may include a diversity of uses such as medical, business park, Class A industrial park, commercial and retail at the intersection of the existing Hwy. 150/16 and the new Hwy. 150/16 interchange.”
The approved plans also show a future realignment of E Maiden Rd where it intersects with NC-150.
Though the plans label the realignment as part of an NCDOT project, the NCDOT previously informed the Chronicle that Home Run Markets would be responsible for the realignment as a condition of their driveway permit.
Home Run Markets began construction on the gas station in February after receiving permit approval the same month.
The gas station chain has approximately twenty locations across North Carolina’s Piedmont with more locations in the works.
